My everyday life reflection #14

Yesterday, I was watching the first semi-final of "Destination Eurovision 2019". It a song contest, in which 18 songs are competing, and the winner will be performing at this years Eurovision Song Contest. In yesterday's show, there where 9 acts competing, including a queer person. His name is Bilal Hassani and he sung song "Roi". It is a very emotional song about how you can be anyone you want to be, without caring about anyone's opinion. Eventually he won the semi with a huge margin of points, The thing that I'm referring to, is the amount of hate he got. Many people speculate, that he won "just because he represents the queer community", to put in mildly. My question is in this case, how on earth could it affect his result?! People have different tastes in music, and not liking either his song or performance is totally normal and there is nothing wrong about it, but using a queer card, just to make an excuse for his win, is just pathetic and poor. I don't say it because I'm a huge supporter of LGBT+ community, but the sight of people calling him "not normal" or saying that people like this should not compete, because he will win just because of a queer thing is discrediting his hard work on the song and it should be stopped. It is a music competition after all, let's embrace the moment and music people are creating and sharing with us, no matter what result they get!
